2016-17 CCC Youth Team Tryouts Location:

Calgary Climbing Centre – Hanger

#106, 588 Aero Dr NE

Calgary, AB

Alternate Tryout:

IF you are unable to attend any of our regular tryouts, we have set up an alternate date of August 29th. Please register via the regular link, choose the alternate tryout option and then email our head coach [email protected] so that she may assign you a time slot on Monday, August 29th between 5-9 pm to be assessed.

When to Show Up: Be aware of the time that you picked for your one hour tryout session.

Arrive at the gym with plenty of time to check in with the front desk, and to assure your waiver is up to date & complete. All applicants should be changed & ready to go by the start of their hour session.

What to Bring:

Climbing shoes, comfortable clothes to climb in and a chalk bag if you use one. No harnesses or ropes will be used. Rental climbing shoes are available at the front desk for $5.

What to Expect:

Upon Check-in you’ll receive a name tag & we will take a photo.

Applicants will be divided into groups depending on which team they are trying out for. A coach will explain how the tryout procedure works in a brief meeting and then make sure everyone in their group has a name tag. Coaches use photos of athletes as a visual reference to ensure we are all talking about the same athlete when we determine team placements. All photos are destroyed immediately after the selection process.

Once the meeting, name tags and photos are complete, interviews will begin.

Climbing & Interviews

Each coach is assigned a list of athletes to interview. When it is your turn to be interviewed, the coach will call your name or come find you. They may ask you to climb specific boulders, or ask you to try certain moves in certain ways. They will ask you some questions about yourself and about why you like to climb.

Each athlete must be interviewed by at least 3 different coaches before leaving the facility. Once an athlete has had 3 interviews, they are able to leave. We experience a high volume of applicants and it helps coaches to do their job more effectively if applicants who have completed our try out process respectfully exit the facility once their hour session is complete.

Selection:

After tryouts, coaches will meet to determine the appropriate team placements for all applicants. Once all placements have been decided, coaches will start notifying applicants of the position they have been awarded.

Notification:

Applicants will be notified about their team placement over the course of the weekend (September 10 &11). Please check in with your phones regularly.

If for some reason you do not receive any notification about your team placement by Monday, September 12th, please contact the CCC Hanger at 587-230-0189.
