Bishop Road Trip
By Alyssa Weber
The Buttermilk boulders.
–
Last winter, Scott and I travelled to Bishop, California for the first time, and ever since then, we have been wanting to go back. We had only gotten a taste of how amazing the climbing is in Bishop and were left with some unfinished projects. So,for this winter break, we planned a trip and squeezed in as many days as we could. We ended up leaving a few days before Christmas, which gave us 17 days total, including 2 days of driving each way. The drive to Bishop is very long, so to make it worthwhile you need to go for a couple weeks. Also, our friend Matt Hendsbee, from Edmonton, flew down after Christmas to join us. He had never been to Bishop before and was psyched to try anything and everything.

by Jelisa Dunbar, coach for the Canadian Youth Climbing Team, and CCC Head Coach.
To compete in an IFSC World Climbing Championship is an experience like no other. Only a handful of Canada’s best athletes are selected to travel abroad to represent the country each year.
Training began early July in Montreal, where coaches, physiotherapists, psychologists and route setters spent the week testing, evaluating and preparing the Youth National team for the adventures that lay ahead. For many athletes, this was the last time we would see them until the World Championships began November 2016 in China.

Thank you Calgary for an amazing first year. It’s actually gone by extremely fast as we ramped up everything each month and you all supported the CCC by coming in and climbing with us.
Here’s a quick video to celebrate our first year.

On June 18-19, the Okanagan Bouldering Society hosted an outdoor festival and competition at the Boulderfields climbing area just south of Kelowna, BC.
Currently in it’s 4th year, and with great recommendations from past attendees, myself and 15 or so CCC climbers made the journey to Kelowna to check out this climbing event.
