fix your stinky shoes

August 20th, 2010

intro-imageEverBamboo is a Calgary company helping to rid climbers of an age old dilemma: “How do you keep your shoes from scaring off your climbing partners?”

Below is a testimonial from one of our staff, judged to have the smelliest shoes in the staff room:

My shoes were voted among the stinkiest at the gym, hands down. Everyone knew when I had finished a climbing session because of the awful stench coming from the staff room. Hence why I was given the EverBamboo shoe deodorizers to try out. I noticed a difference almost immediately. Not only were my shoes less stinky AFTER climbing, but they also dried out a lot faster. A great thing since I climb so often, and would always be sliding my foot into a slightly slimy shoe.

I use them every time after I’m done climbing now, and it makes a huge difference. I can even throw my shoes right into my bag after climbing, without having to worry about airing them out, because the bamboo inserts do it for me. And there is definitely next to no smell. Especially compared to what it used to be. Besides making the shoe itself stink less, I notice that my feet don’t even smell as bad after climbing anymore!

I would highly recommend this product for sure, regardless of whether your shoes are the stinkiest around or not. And since they’re rechargeable, it’s a very worthwhile investment. Plus less stink is definitely a benefit if you spend any time in public around non-climbers.

CCC Instructor and smelly footed dude

Both gyms are now carrying the EverBamboo shoe deodorizers, so check them out the next time you stop in.

When intensity and repetition in a sport increase, injuries become more prevalent. Due to the addictive nature of climbing, it is likely at some point that you might experience an overuse injury. Starting a yoga practice can help you become more aware of how your body is moving (or not moving). With this information, one can incorporate yoga and/or introduce other training to help prevent future injury.

This is why you should check out the Yoga Rocks program starting at the CCC Stronghold in September! Yoga Rocks is a six week course designed to provide a basic understanding of anatomy and bio mechanics in relation to climbing. As well, it provides a solid foundation for new yogis and will enhance the current practice of an experienced yogi.

Some benefits of practicing Yoga at Stronghold:
-Small classes (meaning more one-on-one instruction)
-Friendly, welcoming staff and Instruction
-Conveniently climb and do yoga in one night
-Community feeling that puts you at ease

A little about me:
My yogic journey began in 2005 when I experienced chronic tension and pain all through my body. After many trips to the doctor, it was decided nothing measurable was wrong with me and all of my symptoms were the manifestations of stress. It was at this point I started to understand the mind/body connection and began to explore yoga and meditation. With a background in Kinesiology, I became quite curious about the physical practice and started my teacher training in 2007.

Since my teacher training I have continued to expand my knowledge and personal practice through various trainings with a strong emphasis on yoga therapy. This approach looks at developing a yoga practice that suits an individual’s needs with respect to mind, body and spirit.

As a teacher, I feel honored to share the gifts of yoga with others.

I teach to inspire…to educate…to learn, and to be inspired by others.
